Bio:
Rai was always been a headstrong and willful child, and as she grows into adulthood nothing has changed. The lost of her family's honor hit her more then most might expect such a thing for a girl to feel. Being the youngest of several children nothing was expected much from her. Her sister looked to her mother like dutiful girls should but to Rai, the sword fascinated her more then needles and yarn. Her brother would often laugh at her and gave her wooden sticks. Her father, wiser perhaps, decided that if she was that determined then she should learn proper sword techniques. She wasn't as strong as her brothers so her father taught her to use her speed to her advantage. She shouldn't try to match anyone blow to blow, and if you must fight always stay ahead of the blade. He taught her grace through swordplay. She misses her father the most.
With war ravishing the countryside and her brothers and father being called into action over 5 year ago and not returning, Rai and her mother are the only ones left at home when the raiders come. Her mother forced her to hide and she remains so until sounds of the men and her mother were to hard for her. Rai grabbed one her fathers old blades he left behind and takes it to the raiders. At first they laugh when they see her with a short blade in hand but soon after the first two are bleeding out from cuts they never saw coming the others finally took her seriously. Rai sustained a few minor cuts but every one of those murderous raiders would never breath again.
After burying her mother, Rai thinks about her future for the first time. She could go to her sisters who are married and have moved away. But they would have her give up the blade if she would live with them, and have to get married. Without a male heir to keep the estate the family house will go to Rai's cousin, a sniveling worm of a man, and she would be in his care until she married. Shuddering at the thought, Rai writes 2 letters to her sisters letting them know about mother and that their father and brothers may still be live but haven't had word from them in more then 2 years, and that she is leaving the estate because the family "worm" is coming to take care of the house until the rightful heirs come back if ever. She hopes that her father or brothers are still alive but is not naive about they way things happen in war.
Rai took what little of her families wealth she could carry and set out to make her own destiny as the only house she has known is taken from her by the memories and the blood. First chance she got Rai bought a proper katana as that is what she learned to use from her father. The only things that she keeps from her family is the Gold Holy symbol of Shizuru, which her family name is honored and her mothers signet ring.
